I love movies and have been waiting since the day my first child was born to begin enjoying them with my kids.  Now that my oldest is 5, I’ve started showing them movies that I love.  I found Drew McWeeny’s writing on HitFix.com a couple of years back and have become enamored with his Film Nerd 2.0 columns.  Drew watches his favorite movies with his kids and documents their reactions, thoughts, and experiences.  Since his two boys are the same age as my two oldest, his columns have become a blueprint for exposing my kids to a medium that I love.  Drew’s writing is inspiring for a parent like me and I look forward to my kids growing up with the same appreciate of the art form as his.

I highly recommend the series of columns he did on Star Wars.  Its a fantastic place to start on these fabulous columns!

New Bike Lane Markers…
Centennial felt the need to waste the time and effort of some company to paint new bike lane makers on Clarkson St. A street that does not even go through! Enjoy!

Comedian Jim Hickox (@JimHickox)…

I saw local Denver Comedian Jim Hickox do a set the other night at a show in Boulder and it was some of the most original and interesting comedy I’ve seen live.  I’ve watched him open a couple of shows @ComedyWorks (including for Todd Glass, one of my favorites) but its been more traditional standup.  I know he’s a member of The Grawlix, which is more progressive than standard Comedy Works stuff, but since they perform at 10:30 on Friday nights, having 3 small kids precludes me from attending.

His opening consisted of reciting Bill Pullman’s Speech from the movie “Independence Day”, which had the older couple next to me totally confused (only adding to my enjoyment).  He continued his set sitting at a desk to the side of the stage, projecting himself and his set list onto a screen.  Using Facetime and Pages, he tracked how his jokes worked throughout the set and then concluded with sharing photos he’d found.  I found it enjoyable to be a part of the crowd where half of us were totally buying in and enjoying the set and the other half was slightly confused.

I hope Jim makes it big because I know there is an audience out there that will appreciate his original voice and style.

The video here is from a set he’s done previously but its pretty similar to what I got to experience.

Enjoy!!

Golf Cart Accidents…

Three minutes of stupidity and greatness!  Enjoy!

I’m totally liking Kyle Hilton’s paper doll art based on popular television shows.  Ron Swanson, Walter White, and Michael Bluth as paper dolls are totally awesome!  He also has some sweet comic-style art panels.  Check him out!  Enjoy.
